Share the gift of literacy volunteering as a tutor.

Become a volunteer tutor with OLC.

Our trained tutors have helped others improve their lives though literacy for 55 years.

They meet with their learners at a mutually agreed upon, public place, once a week. We provide the training and the curriculum, books and materials you will need.

Adults and school age children are assessed to determine their needs and we match them with the tutor that fits.

Do you have 1 hour a week to change a life? Become a volunteer tutor.

A Tutoring Story

Meet Jessica.

“My passion for literacy echoes OLC’s core values.”

Jessica joined our mission in 2023, inspired by a friend who recommended Ozarks Literacy Council after listening to the captivating “Sold a Story” podcast. Her dedication to our cause stems from her belief in the power of collective effort to shape a brighter future.

For Jessica, a literate community means far more than just reading and writing—it represents freedom, independence, agency, and respect. Her passion for literacy echoes our core values, driving our efforts to empower individuals through education.

When asked about her desert island reads, Jessica’s choices reflect her eclectic taste and love for storytelling including Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson, Fool by Christopher Moore, and Good Omens by Terry Pratchett/Neil Gaiman.

But here’s the fun twist—did you know that Jessica is also an acrobat in her spare time?  When she’s not immersed in books or volunteering with us, she’s defying gravity with her impressive acrobatic skills.

At OLC, we believe that literacy is the key to unlocking a world of opportunities. We're on a mission to empower individuals through the gift of reading, and you can be a crucial part of this transformative journey.
